Monique Burr Foundation Programs
The Monique Burr Foundation for Children funds programs that impact the lives of thousands of children each year in Florida. Specific programs funded by the Foundation include:
•
Safety and Child Abuse Prevention Education
We believe that all students should receive valuable information to help them remain safe; in fact, it’s the law (Florida Statute 39). In 2009, more than 22,000 students in public and private elementary schools were trained and empowered to protect themselves through our signature child abuse prevention education program. We are currently developing a new curriculum that will address safety from all forms of child abuse and neglect as well as include tools for parents and school personnel with Childhelp and Arizona State University. Your donations are used to provide this prevention education at no cost to schools and summer camps.
• MBF is partnering with the University of Florida’s Child Protection Team to expand the development of “Monique’s Safety Net” program to provide further definition and development to the current program and to begin working with other agencies to allow case managers to provide additional support and services to the Safety Net clients. This program provides training and support for those children and their families who are considered high at-risk or who have already experienced some form of abuse. This program provides the education and tools necessary to stop the cycle of abuse. Monique’s Safety Net serves approximately 300 families each year on the First Coast who are considered high at-risk or who are seen by the UF Child Protection Team and recommended for the Safety Net program.
