Dear Friends, |
|
The Monique Burr Foundation is very grateful for your support and
involvement by attending our events and continuing to share your
financial gifts. In a time when so many non-profit organizations,
all serving worthy needs, are struggling to meet their annual budgets,
we are grateful because you continued to "show-up" to support
the children of Northeast Florida.
At the end of 2009 we hosted our annual Jinglebells ProAm Golf
Tournament raising more than $200,000, and then to top it off, our good
friend Jim Furyk donated an additional $30,000.
On the program front, our facilitators who teach child abuse prevention
education in both public and private schools shared the
Good-Touch/Bad-Touch © (GTBT) curriculum with more than 22,000 students
resulting in over 52 immediate disclosures of abuse. Our program
is designed to teach children how to be safe and to encourage them to
talk to their parents or teachers if they experience the
"Uh-Oh" feeling or if they have any questions. We are
working on updating our curriculum and believe we have a wonderful
opportunity to provide better tools to aid students, parents, and
school personnel.
The Board has
just approved to add another case manager to support our Monique's
Safety Net program provided through the University of Florida's
Child Protection Team. This program provides in-home visits for
those families who have experienced abuse or who are considered
high-risk. Our partnership with the Alpha Jax Foundation
continues to provide after school tutoring at six locations for
students in after school care.
Our fundraising efforts are focused on preparing for the 2010 "A
Night in the Village," hosted by Roy's
in Jacksonville Beach
to benefit MBF. Attendance in 2009 surpassed our expectations and
we are truly looking forward to the event this year. Tickets are
$75 each and will be available for purchase by contacting the
foundation office or visiting our web site. I encourage you to
purchase tickets early as we do have a maximum number of tickets we can
sell. I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,

Child Abuse Prevention & Intervention Program
Updates
|
|
What an amazing year the Monique Burr
Foundation's facilitators have had in 2009! As
of December 30, Larri Jo, Diane and Vannary have trained
a total of 23,688 children, which has resulted in 52
disclosures. GTBT is currently in 105 out of 107 schools in
the Duval
County area.
This year
is continuing to look just as promising as we continue to reach out to
surrounding counties. Recently, Vannary Mak taught at the
very first public school, Shadow Lawn, which resides in the Clay County
district. Our goal for 2010 is to
continue reaching out to more children in more counties than
ever before. Our child abuse prevention education program is
offered to all public and private schools for children in grades
K-5th, in addition to daycare facilities, at no cost. MBF received
a grant from Comcast that has provided financial support for our
expansion in Clay
County.

Jinglebells ProAm Golf Tournament
|
|
We had a
wonderful day at the 12th Annual Monique Burr
Foundation's Jinglebells ProAm Golf Tournament. Presented
by AT&T, Hampton Golf, and Zurich, the
premier charity golf tournament brought together 23 teams of PGA TOUR,
Champions Tour and LPGA TOUR professionals, and golfers from across the
country at The Golf Club at South Hampton. More
than 25 celebrity golfers participated in the tournament, including Jim
Furyk, Fred Funk, and Mark McCumber, who also served as
honorary chairpersons. Tournament chairs were M.G. Orender, Bob
Castranova, and Ryan Schwartz.
This
year's tournament brought in a grand total of $222,000. We
would like to thank everyone involved who helped make this event
such a huge success. Without the help of our tournament
chairs, sponsors, in-kind donors, and volunteers we would
not be able to put on an event of this magnitude.

PGA
Tour Golfer Jim Furyk donates $30,000 from the President's Cup
|
|
Jim Furyk recently designated a check in the amount
of $30,000 to the Monique Burr Foundation for Children. This
donation was a portion of the charitable proceeds generated from the
2009 President's Cup.
This particular
golf tournament is a little different in that the players aren't paid for
their participation, but rather each captain and captain's
assistant is allowed to allocate funds to chosen
charitable causes.
What an amazing
opportunity it is to be selected for such a donation. Words cannot
describe how appreciative we are to receive this wonderful gift. Our
heartfelt thanks goes out to Mr. Furyk - his support and
participation over the years will be forever cherished and one that
we will never forget.
