EXPANSION of FOUNDATION – STATE OF FL AND SOUTHEAST GA

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. was founded in 1997 and since that time has had a presence in Northeast Florida. Working in partnership with non-profit organizations dedicated to the prevention of all forms of child abuse, insuring every child has opportunity to grow in a nurturing home and community. Over 60,000 children have been impacted by the enrichment, educational and prevention programs funded with over $1.5M from the foundation as of 2005.

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Inc. Board of Directors in 2005 began the expansion of the Foundation into all communities in Florida and Southeast Georgia where there is a LandMar Group, LLC presence.

The Foundation hired Dorcas G. Tanner, President/CEO whose responsibility is to oversee the expansion. The goal for the next two years is to develop Regional Chapter Advisory Boards in each of the locations; secure volunteers and staff to put together annual fund raising events; seek annual grant applications from organizations that serve children that are battered and abused along with prevention programs; award dollars raised in each location to the agencies that are chosen by a committee from the Chapter Advisory Board; provide educational programs in each county’s school system public/ private with the signature program of the foundation, The Good-Touch/Bad-Touch Prevention and Motivation Program.

The Foundation’s Governing Board will have oversight on all activities taking place within the LandMar Group, LLC locations. The Chapter Executive Directors will report directly to both the President of the Foundation and each location’s Advisory Board.

The process has begun with the Tampa Bay area being the first location to experience the expansion. Plans are underway for developing relationships within the community, organizations that serve high risk and victimized children are being explored and planning for additional fund raising efforts are being designed.

The first grant making process will begin in January 2006 when applications will be accepted, reviewed and awards made in the spring.
